Exhibition Introduction

China's 5000 year history of civilization has left us with many precious treasures, and calligraphy and painting are one of its representatives. Calligraphy and painting are an artistic display and the imprint left by beauty in the flow of time. They not only present exquisite visual enjoyment to the world, but also directly reflect the development of history and society. Calligraphy and painting mainly use silk or rice paper as the base, and the material texture is thin and prone to wrinkles and damage. During the transmission process, due to improper storage, it is easy to encounter problems such as breakage, dirt, insect erosion, and mold. Some works from ancient times not only have severely damaged visuals, but may even reach the point of shattering upon touch. And the reason why we are fortunate enough to see those timeless masterpieces that have been passed down for thousands of years is largely due to the efforts of generations of restorers. This exhibition is selected from the "Anhui Huizhou History Museum Collection Calligraphy and Painting Cultural Relics Protection and Restoration Project", with a total of 16 pieces (sets), all of which are paintings by calligraphers and painters since the Ming and Qing dynasties. They have extremely high historical, cultural, and artistic value and occupy a very important position in the collection of calligraphy and painting in Anhui Huizhou History Museum. Repairing an ancient calligraphy and painting is like saving an elderly person in critical condition. It is a race against time and a communication with the ancients. For every repairman, the hope in their heart is nothing more than to use their own strength to turn back the years a little, and see the glory of the past on paper again.
